Build Your Own Website
So how do you start with getting a website up? I have seen this come up many times working with different clients. I own my own web shop so this is the same information I would give any of my clients.
You want to build your own website?
You will need 3 things to get you started.
1. A website host. This is the place where all of your website files will be stored. This is not your domain name, (the name you enter in your web browser). For most start-ups, I just recommend a basic package on a php server. If you are an e-commerce website, you will also need an SSL to process credit card numbers on your website.

2. A Domain Name: This is the name associated with your website. This is also the name people will enter in their web browser to reach your website. Some simple naming conventions for good websites. Keep it short and sweet. Names that are easy to remember will take you much farther than long, lengthy names.

3. The Website. There are many solutions available to get you going with a website. You can go to a template site to get a generic website (http://www.monstertemplate.com) or hire a professional web development shop to create a website that suites your web needs (my shop web design chicago).
Final Step: After all 3 items have been aquired, you are ready to get your website up. By using an ftp client, you can upload all the necessary files to your new hosting account. In your hosting account welcome email, you are given all the user information to set up your ftp client.
